My first visit to Havasupai, was addicting! The valley, the hike, the clear water and creek and not to mention the beautiful waterfalls! My heart was touched, and my mind was inspired. Every visit I felt closer and more connected to this amazing place, people, and culture.
On one such occasion, I had the honor and privilege to meet Dianna Sue White Dove Uqualla, native Supai Elder. In our conversation I asked, "What can I do to give back to your community?". Her reply was simple, "Come to Supai to be blessed and bring a strong meditative force to bless the Supai Nation...Meditation has power and can bring about something good for all who participate".
After our conversation I decided I would take her advice and with the help of a small team we created Tigabo Supai. An event like no other where a group of 300 people came together to experience what Havasupai has to offer, and to give back to the community that lives there.
Once we decided to create this event in Havasupai, we needed to get the word out to share and invite people to join us. Every conversation wen't something like this, "Imagine taking, hiking, camping and backpacking, and bringing yoga, meditation, and other Healthy living workshops together, you get an amazing outdoor retreat, get it?" It sounded spectacular, then everything changed in one conversation. The word Granola was mentioned, then the word Yogi and like a ton of bricks it hit me. I knew what we were creating! We created a new way of being! I no longer wondered what to call our gathering or myself!
I believe that everyone at some level is a Granogi. And you don't have to love yoga to be one! Being a Granogi simply means you love nature and you want to improve and connect with self, to be more selfless.
We finally found the right word to describe the world of outdoor recreation infused with yoga, meditation and the desire for healthy living!
Intrigued by the possibilities of what Granogi would become for the world, ideas began flooding in! I knew we would do this retreat and then create other events for Granogis around the world. People who love the outdoors, yoga and meditation are finding more ways to live into healthier living.
Let's come together and share our love for amazing places like Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon and thousands of amazing places like Nepal, Peru all over the earth. Come learn more about being Granogi. The possibilities are endless for all to come and participate with us!
So, how Granogi are you?
